“Allan, I know what the judge ordered, but I’m telling you it’s not enough.”
Allan’s snort makes her hair stand up; even through the phone, Torry can see his smirk. “What can you need that four thousand a month alimony can’t cover?”
“The Beemer insurance…I don’t have enough for my spa membership, and my Visa is overdue…”
Allan’s laugh now sounds…can it be delighted? “Maybe you should have thought of that before you decided our marriage wasn’t worth anything, and figure out how to live on what you’re given.”

This vignette from The Life and Times of Jane Doe is part of the Six Sentence Stories blog hop hosted by Ivy at uncharted. This week’s cue was “given.”

She definitely needs a reality check, she should have known her life was going to change drastically after the divorce. But then we don’t know the other side of the story…

I find it hard to feel sorry for someone who has lost their spa membership, but I wonder what her role was in the divorce if she was left without even the house. Either she had a bad lawyer or she had it coming I think!

Divorce turns a marriage into a business partnership, and one that is dissolving at that. You’ve captured both parties well.

Oh, boy! Reality hits hard to those who can’t seem to live on a budget. (And it doesn’t seem to matter what the amount of money is.)

Perhaps there was a discussion or two that should have taken place before their marriage as well as during.
