“And what about this filing, and why haven’t I seen a supply order on my desk yet? ” Michelle asks.
Jane looks up. “The filing is in progress and the supply order is next, but I have to get this FedEx ready to go out before the pickup in fifteen minutes.” She pauses over the form, and asks, “Do you want this to go overnight, or second day, or ground? “
“Oh for God’s sake, ” Becca snaps, snatching the form and the pen from Jane’s hands.
The bark is worse than the bite, Jane’s heard, but she’s not so sure when it comes to these two.

This is a Six Sentence Stories installment from The Life and Times of Jane Doe. The cue was “bark.”

Good for her, get Michelle to prioritise the tasks then take the blame herself if it is wrong.

in the parlance of the Doctrine your Jane is contending with a roger and a scott (which means that for one it’s the bark, the other, the bite)
fun Six!

This was most definitely a true-to-life tale! I’ve worked with people exactly like that in an office environment and it can be maddening, it can make you want to hurt someone or jump out the nearest window. Kindness, consideration, and cooperation can go such a long way! I sometimes wonder if there is something in the air vents of offices that breeds nastiness!

Thank you! This incident actually did happen; I’m incorporating it into my story. Yes, being nice can make such a difference!

I couldn’t either. That’s a real incident from a job I used to have. Happily, I wasn’t there very long.

Always unfortunate (and unhealthy) when there is rancor in an office setting. Too much time together in a small space for that to be anything but trouble.
